Drilling Support in Remote Swamp Areas

Transported over land and assembled in the river

C-7 Platform Technology
Configured for Shallow-Water Operation

Combifloat delivered a complete modular drilling support spread for an exploration project in the remote swamp regions of South Sudan. All equipment was transported overland by truck, assembled near the River Nile and subsequently towed to the drilling location.

To gain access to the site, an artificial lake was created using excavators operating from Combifloat pontoons, enabling the mobilization of additional floating equipment. The deployed spread included a drill barge, crane barge, fully equipped pusher barge, transport barges and holding spud systems for accurate positioning and stability.

The project utilized Combifloat’s modular C-7 platform technology, configured for shallow-water operation with an approximate draft of 0.8 m and a freeboard of 1.3 m. The modular design allowed all equipment to be transported by road, assembled on site and adapted to the challenging swamp environment.

The floating spread supported the installation of Dietswell’s RCR-1200 drilling rig for operator Petronas, demonstrating how Combifloat’s transportable modular systems provide reliable access and stable working platforms in remote inland waterways, river deltas and swamp areas where conventional marine equipment cannot easily operate.

Proven
Performance & Compliance

The Combifloat pontoons offer full customization and can be equipped with many attachments and accessories specifically needed to successfully execute projects. The C-5 series are often used for geotechnical services and inland marine construction works and offer a 15 T/m2 deck strength just like the C-7 and C-9.5 series. All C-5 series components are fully IACS compliant and delivered with individual test certificates.
